Sustainability & Community Impact
Guided by Tri Hita Karana: Our Pledge to Bali
At the core of Balinese philosophy is Tri Hita Karana—the three pathways to well-being derived from harmony with God, harmony among people, and harmony with nature. This is not just a concept we admire; it is the guiding principle for our entire operation. We believe that true healing cannot happen in a vacuum. It must exist in a state of balance, honoring the environment and the community that make these transformative experiences possible. Our commitment to sustainability is a living, breathing part of our identity.
Environmental Commitments (Palemahan)
We are dedicated to preserving the stunning natural beauty of Bali for generations to come.
- Carbon Offsetting: We acknowledge the environmental impact of travel. We partner with the certified Indonesian organization CarbonEthics to calculate and offset 100% of the carbon emissions from our clients’ flights and ground transportation, as well as our own operational footprint.
- Plastic-Free Journeys: We enforce a strict single-use plastic ban on all our curated experiences. We provide clients with reusable water bottles and work only with partners who share our commitment to minimizing plastic waste.
- Water Conservation: We actively support the Bali Water Protection Program, an initiative by the IDEP Foundation to address the island’s water crisis. A portion of every booking fee is donated to this critical cause.
- Marine Conservation: Through our parent company, Juara Holding Group, we contribute to The Nature Conservancy Indonesia’s programs aimed at protecting the coral reefs and marine biodiversity of the Coral Triangle.
Community Commitments (Pawongan)
Our business is intrinsically linked to the well-being of the Balinese people. We are committed to ensuring our presence is a positive and empowering force.
- Local Employment & Fair Wages: We are proud that over 90% of our team members are Indonesian nationals. We are committed to paying above-market wages and providing comprehensive benefits, including full registration with BPJS Ketenagakerjaan (social security) and BPJS Kesehatan (health insurance).
- Supporting Local Artisans: All guest amenities, from welcome gifts to in-villa products, are sourced directly from local artisan cooperatives in villages like Tegalalang (for crafts) and Mas (for woodwork), ensuring that revenue directly supports these communities.
- Ethical Practitioner Partnerships: We ensure that the traditional healers (Balian) and local practitioners we partner with are compensated fairly and respectfully. We structure our partnerships to honor their sacred work, never demanding they compromise their traditions for commercial purposes.
- Cultural Preservation Initiative: We are launching a project to fund the digitization of ancient lontar manuscripts in partnership with a local cultural foundation. This initiative helps preserve the invaluable knowledge of Usada Bali for future generations.
